Primary Links
St Bede’s values the special relationship which it enjoys with its four main Catholic primary partners. There is a long history of St Bede’s building upon the firm Catholic foundations which are established by its Catholic primary partners as pupils continue on their faith journey at secondary school. In addition, St Bede’s is proud of the inclusive values which underpin the welcome it extends to pupils which now come to the school from over twenty partner primary schools.
Colleagues from St Bede’s regularly work with their counterparts in the primary sector to support learning and to pave the way for a smooth transition to secondary school. Teachers from our Modern Foreign Language Department can be found in many of our partner primary schools helping to inspire a love of language learning. The Maths and English Departments enhance provision by offering a number of extra-curricular opportunities, including a primary maths quiz and literacy competition. Our School Sports Co-ordinator provides a vital link between our primary partners and St Bede’s as she supports the delivery of PE across the district. Our Sports Leaders assist the SSCO in hosting a number of events in the school’s sports hall, including the primary athletics competition and Dance Fever show which are always highlights in the school calendar.
St Bede’s values greatly the benefits gained from close liaison with its partner primaries. Colleagues working collaboratively across the two phases of education are able to enhance their pedagogical skills and aid the smooth transition of pupils as they move from primary to secondary school. It is important that St Bede’s is equipped to build upon the outstanding educational foundations laid down by primary colleagues, so that sufficient challenge is given to new Year 7 pupils and any perceived ‘dip’ in their performance on transition can be avoided.
