Grade 5 SCP 6 -11 £19,698 to £ 21,748 pro rata (£17,891-£19,753)

Term Time Only plus 3 weeks

The Governors of St Bede’s Catholic High School wish to appoint an enthusiastic ICT Technician to join the newly appointed ICT Network Manager.

The position is term time plus 3 weeks, 37 hours per week.

Under the guidance of the Network Manager, the technician will contribute to the delivery of an effective ICT support service throughout the school to respond to identified need, ensuring continuity of service and achieve planned reporting objectives and deadlines.

It is essential that the successful candidate has excellent problem solving and fault diagnosis skills. This role presents a great opportunity for someone with a passion for technology and an understanding of how it can be used to support the needs of staff and pupils.

The ideal candidate must be a team player and be able to use their own initiative. Experience of working in a School or similar setting would be an advantage.

The School has a good reputation in the local community and is over subscribed.

Job Description

Purpose of the role

To support the use of ICT within the school environment through maintenance of ICT software, hardware and related equipment, and providing support to staff and pupils to ensure administration and learning outcomes are maximised.

Additional Purpose –  Part or all of any other equivalent or lesser graded profile undertaken for a minority of the post holders contractual time.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities – appropriate for this post:

Key Duties:

  1. Be responsible for the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software
  2. Maintain a comprehensive database of all support requests and allocate jobs as appropriate
  3. Ensure dedicated ICT areas are ready for use each day and that they are in good working order at the end of each day
  4. Check hardware regularly, repairing simple faults or reporting more complicated faults to the Network Manager, a specialist technician, audio-visual service contractor or third party.
  5. Support all staff and pupils in technical aspects of ICT
  6. Maintain computer files ensuring school observes all GDPR and data protection methods. Ensure back up is undertaken daily in conjunction with third part provider. Maintenance of group files, backing up, archiving and deleting information as appropriate
  7. Maintain and develop network in conjunction with the Network Manager and any external support.
  8. Support adherence to ICT policies, including those relating to safeguarding and internet usage and report any concerns
  9. Resolve hardware / software technical issues across the suite of programmes used
  10. Co-ordinate the work of staff providing technical support as required.

Individuals in this role may also:

  1. Carry out desk-top publishing procedures
  2. Provide bespoke ICT training for staff and pupils
  3. Check and maintain stocks of ICT consumables.  Updating audit inventory as required
  4. Manage website content updating back end and front end as required
  5. Help with maintenance of Office 365 including Teams, Exchange and Onedrive
  6. Manage door access systems and staff access
  7. Maintain Library systems, issuing new cards to incoming pupils and updating database
  8. Support the use of VOIP system across school updating messages as required
  9. Support Network Manager with the delivery of IT projects across the school
  10. First line support for systems including Wifi, Cashless catering, printing, CCTV and Cloud solutions
  11. Point of contact for staff and pupil queries

Skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Previous relevant experience or the ability to demonstrate the competence to carry out the job.
  • Possession of, or the ability to demonstrate the capability to gain, relevant qualifications, licences or equivalent where applicable, including First Aid Certificate.
  • Enhanced skills appropriate to the job discipline.
