Design & Technology

Welcome to Design & Technology

KS3 - The Design and Technology Department aims to provide a stimulating learning environment where students have the opportunity to work in a safe, creative manner. Pupils will make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative and enterprising. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in design and make activities.

Students' self-confidence is enhanced by engaging in problem-solving tasks. All students are encouraged to develop their designing, making, evaluating and technical knowledge to the highest standard across the department. Pupils cover a wide range of skills throughout Key Stage 3 in a number of disciplines including: Graphics, Resistant Materials, Food, Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture.
