Local Democracy week at West Lancs Borough Council 13/10/16

Fifteen pupils from Years 8-10 took part in Local Democracy week. The school counsellors were taken by Mr Holt and Miss Kelly to West Lancs Borough Council offices to be given an introduction to local government. Furthermore, council debate procedures were explained. The pupils then took part in a debate on ‘Respect’. The question posed being “What should we do with tenants who fail to show respect to others?”. The mock council debate was chaired by Mayor Counsellor Savage. The pupils put questions and viewpoints to council officers who deal with tenancy. The questions and comments were of a high quality and really elicited detailed responses from the young council officers. The pupils then voted on ‘should respect for property be included in local council tenancy agreements?’ It was a unanimous vote of 14 YES to 1 NO. A great experience for all involved !DSCF4421.JPGDSCF4423.JPGDSCF4432.JPGDSCF4439.JPG
