Dear Parent /Carer

I trust that you all had a restful Christmas period and as we begin the spring term 2017 in earnest, I would like to wish you a happy New Year from all the staff at St Bede’s.  Additionally, I am writing to provide you with information about recent developments at our school and to give you details about some changes to this year’s school calendar of events.

During the autumn term, Mr Turpin our outstanding Curriculum Leader of English was seconded to work in support of colleagues in one of our partner West Lancashire schools.  The temporary arrangement has been made permanent effective from January 2017 as Mr Turpin has gained a position in the school as an Assistant Headteacher.  Governors and staff at St Bede’s would like to wish Mr Turpin every success in his new role and thank him for his many years of inspirational leadership of the English Department.

Following Mr Turpin’s departure, the recruitment of his replacement has resulted in the appointment of Mr Belger to Curriculum Leader of English from his previous position as Lead Teacher of English.  A national advertisement for the post brought applications from a number of extremely strong candidates from all parts of the UK.  It is testimony to Mr Belger’s skills, attributes and qualities that he stood out so significantly in such a strong field of candidates.  We wish him every success as he embarks on the next phase of his career at our school.

This year’s school production of Annie the musical was scheduled to take place on 7th, 8th & 9th February 2017 but due to a number of factors, not the least the wide and varied extra-curricular commitments of so many of our gifted pupils, it has proven necessary to postpone the production until later in the academic year.  The performances will now take place on 17th, 18th & 19th July 2017.  I hope that this change will not prove to be inconvenient and I would like to stress that the postponement is necessary to ensure an enjoyable and high quality experience for both audience members and participants.

Once again, may I wish you all a happy New Year.  If you would like to discuss any school related matters please do not hesitate to email or telephone.  I look forward to seeing you on your next visit to St Bede’s when you will encounter our new foyer and reception area which has been constructed during the Christmas break.  We are grateful to Liverpool Archdiocese for funding the project, which I think you will agree, provides a safe, bright and welcoming environment for staff, pupils and visitors alike.

Yours sincerely

Mr C Horrocks
